If you have an allergy or asthma attack, you can normally rely on inhalers or shots to alleviate the symptoms, but if ever SHTF, you might not have access to such medications. How then will you be able to treat your allergies in the middle of a disaster scenario? Here are some natural remedies you can use as improvised allergy treatments in case SHTF. Allergies occur due to the body’s hypersensitive immune system mistaking harmless substances for harmful ones and reacting accordingly. Allergic reactions can be prevented by avoiding allergens or the substances that trigger them in the first place. However, as with the case of most airborne triggers, this is often not a feasible solution. There are many other natural alternatives for treating allergies, such as the use of essential oils and meditation exercises. Marshmallow root is useful in alleviating a bad cough or a heavy production of phlegm. The only downside to taking marshmallow root is that it can inhibit the absorption of other molecules and nutrients. Because of this, it is recommended that you allow at least two to three hours to pass in between the time that you the marshmallow root and the time that you ingest other herbs.
Extracts of this shrub-like plant have been commonly used in folk medicine for treating a number of ailments such as migraines, stomach cramps, coughs, allergies, and asthma. This herb is a member of the ragweed family. As such, it is only helpful for those who are not allergic to plants from the ragweed family, such as marigold, daisy, and chrysanthemum. It is also not recommended for pregnant or nursing women, children, or people with kidney or liver disease.
Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties and can be used to help alleviate stomach problems. Those with allergies or asthma associated with acid reflux can greatly benefit from using ginger. It can help relieve both stomach irritation and inflammation.
Turmeric is a popular herbal remedy that can be useful in treating asthma due to its anti-inflammatory properties. It can be used to help relieve swollen and irritated bronchial passages. As with other herbal remedies on this list, turmeric must also be used with caution.
